However, every technology reaches a limit at some point, and then innovation brings new breakthroughs. That's the reason behind XGT, the new 40V Max platform Makita will roll out in the coming years. Around a completely redesigned battery.

About 100 machines are expected to be available by the end of next year for high-performance solutions in construction, industry, landscaping and cleaning. A small blow to that: the coronavirus affects production build-up. It is moving a little slower than originally expected, but that it is coming is certain.

High power

Increasing the voltage (volts) increases output. With more output, a drill/screwdriver becomes more powerful, an angle grinder stays on speed better so it cuts faster, and a circular saw combines power with speed so it cuts through thicker wood quickly. Increasing the voltage decreases heat generation. A machine with a higher voltage requires less current (Amps) for the same operation and therefore creates less heat in the electronics and battery. You can use a machine and battery with higher power intensively for longer.

More possible

Heavy-duty batteries. The XGT battery is not interchangeable with the LXT battery, and there is a good reason for that. Thanks to the use of 3rd generation battery cells, a strong construction and robust contacts, XGT batteries are suitable for heavier work. They deliver current more easily and can withstand heavier loads. This is necessary in (future) applications to replace 230 V or fuel machines. There are two types: 2.5 Ah and 4.0 Ah.
